From Restless Nights to Restful Sleep: My Lavender & Shanti Mantra Ritual

For years, I struggled to fall asleep. Even at 11 pm or midnight, while my body
longed for rest, my mind remained active—filled with thoughts, ideas, and leftover
energy from the day. Sleep felt distant. And I knew the cost—fatigue, irritability, and
reduced focus the next day.
We often underestimate sleep, but it’s not optional. It’s a daily necessity, as essential to wellness as food, movement, and breath.
Why Sound Sleep Is Vital
While we sleep, our body and mind go into healing mode. Cells repair, hormones
rebalance, the brain processes emotions, and our nervous system resets. Deep
sleep improves focus, mood stability, immune function, and emotional resilience.
On the other hand, sleep deprivation—especially when chronic—can lead to anxiety,
low energy, poor decision-making, and long-term health issues.
Better mornings begin the night before.
A Simple Ritual That Changed Everything
Recently, I began a practice that has made falling asleep effortless—and even
beautiful.
Each night before bed, I:
Take a drop of pure Lavender Essential Oil on my finger and apply it gently
to the Ajna Chakra (bindi point), temples, behind the ears, and wrists.
Place a couple of drops on my pillow, allowing the scent to softly fill the
space around me.
Lie down, close my eyes, and begin silently chanting the Shanti Mantra in my
mind—no movement of lips, just internal repetition, like a ripple through the
stillness within.
Though I intend to chant it 21 times, I rarely get past the third or fourth repetition. My
breath deepens, thoughts dissolve, and sleep gently takes over—usually within
10–15 minutes.
Why This Works
Lavender Essential Oil is known for its calming and sedative properties. Its natural
components, especially linalool and linalyl acetate, help reduce anxiety, lower the
heart rate, and ease the body into rest. But this only works when the oil is 100%
pure and undiluted—free from synthetic fragrances and fillers.
Purity matters. When you’re applying something to your skin or inhaling it deeply into
your system, it must be as nature intended—clean, potent, and untouched.
Sound + Scent = Inner Stillness
The Shanti Mantra, a timeless chant from Indian scriptures, invokes peace—peace
of mind, peace in the environment, and peace in the unseen realms. Chanting it
silently focuses the mind and slows down racing thoughts.
But that is what worked for me. For you, it may be something different.
Maybe it’s another mantra, a calming hymn, a simple prayer, or even a few deep
breaths. It could be a sound, a memory, or a practice that helps the mind quieten and
prepares you for sleep. The key is to find what creates inner peace—then combine
it with an environment that supports rest.
A drop of pure essential oil. A calming ritual. And a few minutes with yourself.
The Gift of Sleep
Since starting this practice, I not only fall asleep faster—I wake up lighter. Clearer. More grounded. My days feel better because my nights are finally restful.
If you’re struggling to sleep, try a simple bedtime ritual. Find your sound, your scent,
your silence.
Sleep isn’t an interruption—it’s a return. A return to balance, to healing, and to
yourself.
