Managing Stress & Anxiety with Aromatherapy
Our day to day lives in cities can get extremely overwhelming, based on external factors such as traffic, pollution, noise, timelines etc. From time to time all of us experience bouts of stress & anxiety. Research shows that an average human in a city has close to 50 stress responses in a day! Kindly note this study is based on a set of people in the United States, which means based on the chaos in our country our stress responses per day must through the roof!
Every time your body moves into stress response or also largely known as fight or flight mode certain hormones like cortisol & epinephrine are released in the body, which refocuses all of your body’s restorative powers to pump up your blood pressure and heart rate, activate your large muscle groups to save your life! The Stress response is extremely critical if you are about to be in a car accident or are being chased by a tiger. But in our day to day lives our nervous system is unable to differentiate between such situations and shifts to fight or flight mode very often which harms us immensely (mentally & physically).
Anti-Anxiety drugs are most definitely extremely helpful, but in the long run, they can get addictive & dangerous, with withdrawal symptoms such as seizures & extreme cases of anxiety. Therefore, a natural alternative is needed more than ever today!
Aromatherapy is now known & accepted as a powerful, safe & effective way to handle, manage & relieve stress & anxiety. Just inhaling these beautiful natural compounds have shown results of reducing stress in a span of minutes. Back in 2002, the Japanese Journal of Pharmacology. Researchers found that the simple inhalation of patchouli reduced sympathetic nervous activity by 40%.
Such a profound reduction in fight or flight associated hormones is very hard to accomplish through non-toxic means. A lot of people find immediate relief from alternatives such as alcohol, excessive eating, tobacco or even harder drugs that cause adverse health effects.
It turns out that many of the floral essential oils are well-suited in calming the body, mind and soul back into alignment. Lavender oil, for instance, has also been studied for the ability to reduce stress, anxiety, aggression, insomnia amongst many other therapeutic properties
Aromatherapy, of course, works primarily through the nose, but can also act through the lungs and the skin. When inhaled, volatile aroma compounds from plants are capable of exerting direct-to-brain actions, primarily through the limbic and olfactory systems.
As Aromatherapy interacts directly with the subconscious mind, it is also one of the most amazing tools to reprogram your mind, beliefs, set intentions & live a more conscious life. On the 23rd of this month, I am conducting a beautiful workshop to give you tricks, ways & blends to help you live a happier, joyful & stress-free life.
I look forward to seeing all you beautiful people there!
Have a fabulous weekend ahead!
