Essential oils and aromatherapy can be great companions on your workout journey.  Along with a proper diet, hydration, stretching and the right trainer, Essential Oils can help you get closer to your goal.

Whether you do weight training, yoga or functional training there are days where getting out of bed in the morning due to muscle soreness can be really challenging. Any intense work out can lead to cramps, sore and tired feet and some serious pain.

We’re listing a few of the most effective Essential Oils to help you recover faster by reducing muscle pain and relaxing them!

 

Black Pepper Essential Oil is great for the immune system as it’s a natural antioxidant and fights free radicals. It helps increase blood circulation, has natural warming   properties and is also an antispasmodic, which can reduce the amount of time for your muscle fibers to rebuild and recover after a challenging weight training or bodyweight training session.

How to use

For sore muscles or cramps after a workout

  • Either mix 2 drops of Black Pepper Essential Oil in 5 Table spoons of a base oil such as apricot and apply on affected area
  • Or use three to five drops with a warm compress on the sore muscles to ease pain and improve circulation.

You can also diffuse 3 -4 drops of the Essential Oil to keep your immune system strong.

 

Ginger Essential Oil is great for digestion, aids the respiratory system and also has a high amount of antioxidants. Zingibain which is a component of Ginger is responsible for the oil’s anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties. If you pull, twist or tear a muscle at the gym, using ginger root oil could make the pain much more tolerable.

How to use

For sore muscles or inflammation after a workout

  • Either mix 2 drops of Ginger Essential Oil in 5 Table spoons of a base oil such as apricot and apply on affected area
  • Or use three to five drops with a warm compress on the sore muscles to ease pain and improve circulation.
  • In a basin or bucket, add warm water, 2 Tablespoons of Epsom Salt, 5 Drops of Ginger Essential Oil. Dip your feet for about 20 mins, pat dry and lather on some apricot oil. 

 

Peppermint Essential Oil is a refreshing natural antidepressant, muscle relaxant, relieves headaches, digestion booster, anti-inflammatory and improves blood circulation. Peppermint Essential Oil is one of the most multi-purpose Essential oils, it’s great for uplifting the mind and motivating. Muscle soreness is relieved by topically applying Peppermint.

How to use

  • Either mix 2 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil in 5 Table spoons of a base oil such as apricot and apply on affected area
  • Or use three to five drops with a warm compress on the sore muscles to ease pain and improve circulation.
  • In a basin or bucket, add warm water, 2 Tablespoons of Epsom Salt, 5 Drops of Peppermint Essential Oil. Dip your feet for about 20 mins, pat dry and lather on some apricot oil.

 

Lavender Essential Oil is extremely effective in reducing anxiety, calming emotional stress, relieving pain, improves brain function and helps relieve insomnia. It’s a natural antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant. One of the most important things to keep in mind when in need of a fast recovery is restful and undisturbed sleep.

How to use

To relax sore muscles after a workout

  • Either mix 2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil in 5 Table spoons of a base oil such as apricot and apply on affected area
  • Or use three to five drops with a warm compress on the sore muscles to ease pain and improve circulation.
  • In a basin or bucket, add warm water, 2 Tablespoons of Epsom Salt, 5 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil. Dip your feet for about 20 mins, pat dry and lather on some coconut oil.

 To sleep well

  • Put a drop of Lavender Essential oil on your pillow and sleep away!
  • Take a few drops of Lavender, apply on your temples and nape of your neck to sleep like a baby!

The thumb rule to keep in mind for all Essential Oil usage is the dilution should be kept at 5%. Essential Oils are very strong and potent and should be used sparingly. Please maintain caution on usage.
